GLENTIES-DONEGAL THREE MEN ARRESTED FIREARMS SEIZED FOLLOWING SHOOTING

UPDATED: Gardaí have arrested three men and recovered firearms and ammunition following a shooting incident in Glenties, Co Donegal. Shortly after midnight, Gardaí were called to Mill Road in Glenties, after reports that a man armed with a rifle had fired shots. A number of garda units attended the scene. During a brief standoff, the armed man shot in the direction of Gardaí, causing damage to a patrol car, before he was apprehended by armed Gardaí. The man, aged in his early 20s, was arrested and taken to Ballyshannon Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939. A rifle, a hunting knife and a number of rounds of ammunition were seized. During a follow-up operation by Gardaí, a house on Main Street, Glenties, was searched.

A second firearm was recovered and two men, aged in their 20s and 40s, were arrested as part of the investigation.
Both men were taken to Ballyshannon Station where they are currently detained for questioning under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939. Gardaí preserved a number of scenes for examination following the incident and enquiries are ongoing. No shots were fired by gardaí during the incident, a garda spokesperson said, and there have been no reports of any injuries. UPDATE: A teenage male has been arrested, and a shotgun and ammunition have been secured following an incident at a house in Co Donegal.
A garda operation had been under way at the house in Letterkenny since Wednesday morning, when the teenager barricaded himself into the property. It was confirmed that he had access to firearms and ammunition.  No other person was in the house.
Gardaí said the incident was resolved "peacefully" in the early hours of this morning following the intervention of the Garda Emergency Response Unit.
Nobody was injured during the operation and the shotgun and ammunition were safely secured at the scene, gardaí said.
A media blackout had been observed during the incident, which lasted 54 hours. In a statement, Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan said: "I want to commend all the members of An Garda Síochána, the other dedicated public service professionals, along with vital family and community support who worked tirelessly for the past two days to successfully resolve a sensitive incident in Donegal and bring matters to a safe conclusion.
"The outcome is a testament to the professionalism and expertise of all those involved. I also want to express my gratitude to the media for their responsible attitude and cooperation with the authorities during the incident." END OF UPDATE:
